Lifting up America's forgotten communities

The economy has created nearly 3 million jobs since President Trump took office. The unemployment rate has fallen to 3.8 percent, matching its lowest level in nearly 50 years. Consumer confidence and business optimism have skyrocketed. American manufacturing is thriving, with manufacturers expecting record levels of employment growth and investment.

Crucially, these gains have reached many communities that have struggled historically. African-American and Hispanic unemployment rates have hit record lows. The unemployment rate for women has fallen to its lowest level since 1953. Jobs have come back to many states that were hit hardest by the Great Recession and America's string of bad trade deals.

America is open for business, and that's good news for everyone. President Trump's first 500 days included signing historic tax cuts for working families; rolling back unnecessary regulations that hit energy producers, farmers, and manufacturers; and finally getting tough on China for years of unfair trade practices.

President Trump's first 500 days of growth is lifting all people through a growing economy.

•
"In Nicaragua, the government of Daniel Ortega, as we all know, is committing and condoning terrible violence."
•
In Venezuela, "the regime of Nicolas Maduro has turned a free and prosperous nation into one of the most poorest and most despotic in our hemisphere."

The power of this seed leads us to ask one question: how can one seed can be so effective against a variety of complications and issues, and just how many diseases has black seed oil been found not to be able to treat?

The Day Ahead

President Donald J. Trump will preside over the Change of Command Ceremony for the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. Watch live at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Unemployment reaches lowest level in 18 years

The United States economy added 223,000 jobs in May, one of many recent indicators showing that President Trump's economic policies are paying dividends for American workers and businesses. Employment growth averaged 207,000 jobs per month in 2018- faster than the gains in both 2016 and 2017.

Job growth in goods-producing industries such as manufacturing, construction, and mining and logging have been especially robust. After averaging gains of 27,000 jobs per month during President Obama's second term, these industries have almost doubled the pace of hiring to 46,000 jobs per month since January 2017.

Senator Portman - Rob’s Rundown: Week of May 7-11, 2018

This week, the Senate passed bipartisan legislation Senator Portman introduced with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) called the Improving Access to Behavioral Health Information Technology Act. This bill will help behavioral health care providers – like psychologists and psychiatric hospitals – adopt electronic health records. In addition, Senator Portman delivered remarks on the Senate floor in support of Gina Haspel to be the next CIA director as well as on the opioid epidemic and its impact on employers’ ability to find qualified workers.  Lastly, Senators Portman and Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the Medicare Beneficiary Opioid Addiction Treatment Act (S. 2704). This legislation would break down existing barriers to treatment, by providing coverage for methadone under Medicare Part B and allowing seniors and people with disabilities to receive this important medication in their doctor’s office.
For a more detailed look at Senator Portman’s week, please see the following:

Portman-Whitehouse Behavioral Health IT Bill Passes Senate
Portman and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) announced that the Senate has passed their bipartisan Improving Access to Behavioral Health Information Technology Act to help behavioral health care providers – like psychologists and psychiatric hospitals – adopt electronic health records.  The bill, introduced by Portman and Whitehouse last August, is cosponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).  The legislation would authorize the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide incentives to adopt electronic health technology to behavioral health care providers, improving the coordination and quality of care for Americans with mental health, addiction, and other behavioral health care needs.
“This common-sense bill would improve care for those receiving mental health and substance abuse treatment.  And it would help bring our behavioral health system in line with physician health care by enabling the same incentives for substance use and behavioral health providers that other medical professionals have received,” said Portman.

Senator Brown - Cracking Down on Fentanyl

Unfortunately, we know that illegal, deadly fentanyl is all too common in Ohio – our local law enforcement must deal with it on a nearly daily basis.

And because of the massive quantity of these drugs officers are seizing, state and local testing labs are facing big backlogs. Sometimes agencies have to wait months for results, which delays officers’ work to get these deadly drugs off Ohio streets.

That’s why I joined Senator Portman and a bipartisan group of our colleagues to introduce the POWER Act. Our legislation builds on my INTERDICT Act, which President Trump signed into law this year, by giving local and state law enforcement the same access to high-tech devices that Customs and Border Protection agents use to stop fentanyl at the border, so they can safely and effectively test dangerous drugs in their own towns.

9/11 Memorial and Museum Marks 16 Years

National September 11 Memorial & Museum Next week will mark 16 years since the formal end of recovery operations at the World Trade Center. On May 30, 2002, the Last Column from the original World Trade Center site was ceremonially removed, marking the official close of the nine-month recovery effort.

Each year, on May 30, we gather to remember all those who responded to the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks and put themselves in harm's way to help or save others. Starting just hours after the towers fell, these remarkable men and women risked their own lives and health, in hopes of rescue, in support of families whose loved ones had been killed, and to pave the way for rebuilding and renewal. We owe each of them a debt of gratitude for their selfless commitment and perseverance.

Memorial Day is about remembering those members of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and community. Before you begin your holiday weekend, please join me in also remembering the courageous men and women of the 9/11 rescue and recovery.

To every first responder and recovery worker, representatives of relief organizations, and volunteers, from New York to Ohio, who came when we needed them most, thank you. Sixteen years later, your service and resolve continue to represent the very best of New York City — and America.

One year ago, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum announced a commitment to create a dedicated space on the Memorial plaza to recognize the tremendous capacity of the human spirit, as exemplified during the rescue, recovery, and relief efforts following the 9/11 attacks, and to honor the sacrifice of all who are now suffering or have died from 9/11-related illnesses caused by exposure to toxins at the World Trade Center site. Please look for an email next week with an important announcement related to this new development at the Memorial.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day,

Alice M. Greenwald
President & CEO, 9/11 Memorial & Museum

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is only possible because of your support.

It only took Senator Murphy a few moments after the Las Vegas shooting before he was out raising money from this horrible crime.  This is a morbid way to feed from people’s emotions, without having to come up with real solutions.

And after the recent atrocity committed in Santa Fe, TX, he is again exploiting the deaths of innocents.  In his tweet of May 19, Murphy said; “I support the real 2nd Amendment, not the imaginary 2nd Amendment. And the real #2A isn’t absolute.  It allows Congress to wake up to reality and ban these assault rifles that are designed for one purpose only - to kill as many people as fast as possible.”

Senator Murphy, a lawyer and career politician, seems to think the US Constitution doesn’t mean what it says and is somehow “flexible”.  To paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black’s address to the University of Florida School of Law; “There are absolutes in the Constitution; it was written by men who knew what words meant and who meant their prohibitions to be absolute.”  And, “Our duty (the Court’s) is to interpret the Constitution as it was intended and not to suit the passions of the day.”

Communist gun-grabber, Sen. Murphy
Let’s tell it like it is:  Because of the bewildering failure of Congress (and state officials) to address the root causes of such violence and prepare to deal with it, a green light is given to would-be shooters who pervert inaction into endorsement.

Senator Murphy has no intention of protecting our most vulnerable:
