Vera Winters |
Vera was a British immigrant who lived through the bombing of London in World War Two.
This expression was adopted by the British people in response to shortages during the war. Because of the war effort, everything, food, clothing, glass, lumber; everything was in short supply. Brits were encouraged to grow their own food in what came to be known as "victory gardens".
Vera repeated this expression to her daughters, Linda and Barbara, over and over.
