President Donald J. Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a bilateral visit at the White House yesterday. The two leaders discussed the imminent move of the U.S. Embassy in Israel to its capital city of Jerusalem, as well as the path to peace for the Middle East.
“I want to tell you that the Jewish people have a long memory,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said. “We remember 70 years ago, President Harry S. Truman was the first leader to recognize the Jewish state. And we remember how a few weeks ago, President Donald J. Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” he continued.
“Mr. President, this will be remembered by our people throughout the ages. And as you just said, others talked about it. You did it.”
The greatest challenge to the Middle East is encapsulated in one word, says Prime Minister Netanyahu.
‘Needed attention’ on infrastructure
Two top officials in Oklahoma—the state’s Governor, Mary Fallin, along with Secretary of Transportation Mike Patterson—write that “infrastructure improvement is a priority issue because of its direct impact on economic growth and stability as well as the safety and well-being of our citizens.”
The two state leaders make a convincing case:
- In 2011, 706 of Oklahoma’s 6,800 highway bridges were structurally deficient. That number is coming down to 187 under Gov. Fallin, and the President’s “plan will allow Oklahoma to continue to prioritize infrastructure projects.”
- President Trump’s proposal includes traditional transportation such as roads and transit, but it also supports broadband internet, water and power systems, and other indispensable pieces for a modern infrastructure system.

When Senator Portman and I met with the President earlier this month to talk about our steel and trade policy, I made it clear that trade enforcement must be a priority.
I also made it clear that we need quick action to address China’s steel overcapacity. For far too long, our steel industry has been drowning under a flood of unfairly traded steel imports that threaten Ohio jobs.
Last year, the administration launched an investigation into the impact of certain steel imports on national security, known as a 232 investigation. But it took nine months to complete that investigation, and even after the Commerce Secretary announced his findings, the administration has yet to take action. This delay is allowing foreign competitors to keep dumping steel into the market, and Ohio steelworkers don’t need a report to tell them they are losing jobs to Chinese cheating.

This week, Senator Portman introduced the bipartisan CARA 2.0 Act. This bill builds on the success of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), provides additional resources to help turn the tide of addiction, and puts in place policy reforms that will strengthen the federal government’s response to this crisis.

to
operationalize
the

priorities
of
the
Global
Engagement
Center
(GEC)
to
help
counter
foreign
propaganda
and
disinformation:“This announcement is an important milestone in the development of an operational capability to counter foreign disinformation being waged against us by our foreign adversaries. For more than a year, I’ve been pushing State and DOD to fully execute the purpose and intent of this counterpropaganda law that Senator Murphy and I worked to enact,” said Senator Portman. “While long overdue, I’m pleased we now have a road map in place that operationalizes the GEC and details how the money will be spent and who is responsible for developing and executing these projects. It is time for the Department of Defense to fulfill the promise made by senior DOD leadership to provide the full $40 million in funding to support the GEC. Congress enacted legislation establishing the GEC more than a year ago, and the repeated delays are standing in the way of combatting a serious threat to our national security.”
