Your Voice Ohio - Combating the Opioid Epidemic: Talking Solutions in the Miami Valley

Talking Solutions in the Miami Valley

Earlier this week, journalists from the Dayton Daily News, WYSO Public Radio, Journal-News, the Miami Student, the Springfield News-Sun, and WKRC-TV met with over 100 community members in Dayton, Middletown, and East Cincinnati. We asked three questions to help guide the conversation.

1. What does the opioid epidemic look like in our community?
2. What do we see as causes of the epidemic in our community?
3. What steps might we take to combat the opioid epidemic?

The meetings gave the local media the chance to sit down with people and learn about how they were experiencing the epidemic. Participants included people in recovery, the families of those who are struggling with addiction, social workers, and emergency room nurses, who asked specific questions that will guide our coverage moving forward. Paul Komarek of Cincinnati said he was pleased to see so many people join the conversation: "this is an all-society epidemic, and we have to face it together.”
