President Donald J. Trump attended the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Manila, Philippines. President Trump and President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines commended ASEAN for its important role in promoting regional peace, prosperity, and stability in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued defense cooperation by reinforcing their respective national defense capabilities and enhancing joint activities, disaster response, and cybersecurity.
"The United States remains committed to ASEAN's central role as a regional forum for total cooperation," said President Trump. "This diplomatic partnership advances the security and prosperity of the American people and the people of all Indo-Pacific nations."

On Monday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump spoke at the Bayville Fire Hall in Bayville, New Jersey, to advocate for a tax reform plan that will bring relief to the American middle class and stimulate business growth and competition. “We believe that cutting the rate of taxes on corporations, medium-sized and small businesses is going to accomplish the goal of putting more money back in the pockets of American workers,” said Ivanka.

President Trump Nominates Alex Azar to be Secretary of Health & Human Services
Yesterday, President Trump announced that he was nominating Alex M. Azar II to be the Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS). Mr. Azar has led a notable career by serving in several senior roles in both the public and private sectors. Previously, Azar has served in key leadership posts at HHS as General Counsel from 2001-2005 and as Deputy Secretary from 2005-2007. Azar was confirmed to both of his previous HHS positions with unanimous bipartisan support.
As President of Lilly USA, LLC, he directly led the U.S. Biomedicines business unit, encompassing the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular health, men’s health, musculoskeletal, autoimmune disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and pain, as well as the sales, marketing, and payer operations of the company’s U.S. commercial business.

Today, President Trump is traveling back to Washington, D.C. after finishing up his historic trip to Asia.The Vice President will meet with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney, and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green. Later in the day, the Vice President will deliver remarks at the Wall Street Journal's 10th Annual CEO Council Meeting.
