Local Couple Recognized as the 2018 National Outstanding Young Farmers

Honoring the 2018 National Outstanding Young Farmers
I was honored to have my friends and fellow farmers Nick and Sunny Cummings from Washington Court House join us at the Statehouse so we could recognize their hard work and dedication to farming and agriculture. They were recently recognized as the 2018 National Outstanding Young Farmers. The future of Ohio and agriculture is in good hands with young couples like the Cummings!

Reducing Red Tape Bureaucracy
in Ohio
With over 240,000 regulatory restrictions, Ohio is far more restrictive than our neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia. It's important for us to step back and review what regulations are important and needed to protect Ohioans, as well as what may be outdated or duplicative and stifling the growth of our small businesses. The Senate President and I recently discussed our idea for modernizing the regulatory environment, including setting a reduction goal and eliminating two administrative rules for every one new one that is created.

Working to Protect Ohio's
Senior Citizens
The number of seniors in our communities who are financially exploited is staggering, and often times the criminals are the people who are closest to them. I was proud to co-sponsor and vote "yes" on this important legislation that will help protect Ohio's seniors from financial fraud and exploitation.

Paint Valley ADAMH Board
Visits the Statehouse
Recently, I was able to meet with the staff of the Paint Valley Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board during their visit to the Ohio Statehouse. They serve five counties as a resource for mental health, addiction and recovery services to those most in need. As we continue to battle an opioid crisis across the state, their work is more crucial now than ever. If you or someone you know is struggling, I encourage you to call your local prevention crisis hotline.
